Scientist in Clone Tests Says Hoax Is Possible (N.Y. Times) reveals that the science journalist who agreed to oversee the Clonaid tests questions the whole project.
"It’s still entirely possible Clonaid’s announcement is part of an elaborate hoax intended to bring publicity to the Raelian movement."
Seriously, did anyone pay this story any mind from the beginning?
No mind at all. I did, however, raise and eyebrow at the use of the word 'movement' by said "science journalist" in regards to the Raelian group. I know they are a group of folks that believe humans were genetically created by aliens and placed here on earth. But I had no idea it was a 'movement' :)
The second "clone" was born over here in Holland. Ronald Plasterk, a famous dutch scientist, offers to help proof it is a real clone. All he needs to do is take a saliva sample with a q-tip and compare the samples. He doesn't need to know who the mother is or where she lives. The mother and child can remain completely anonymous by being blindfolded. He doesn't believe a clone was born, but as a scientist he would like to know for sure.
So what did a Raelian representative say?
"-uh- We think this would -uh- harm the mother and -uh- child -uh- ... bla bla bla"
Cloning a human is pretty amazing when scientists haven't even been able to clone dogs or apes. Plus the Raelian cloning has a much higher succes rate than normal IVF.

They don't like being called a cult.

I think in the end it will bring the cult more harm than good.
Well, I suppose cloning humans would be child's play if you had access to alien techology ;-)
*elaborate* hoax? Really? It seems pretty simple to get the media to pick up on stupid claims these days.
As for the Raelians, more power to them. I can't say they are any crazier than christians or muslims. They all believe in something no one can prove, right?

why has it taken them so long to do this then? have they just been waiting for mankind to catch up to the alien race? i guess that we are all clones then.
i can't believe that they are getting all the media that they are. the vice president was on the view! i was ashamed after that.
You mean they even managed to fool "The View"!? Man, this is really getting out of hand.
Nope.. but I was really waiting for them to try a switch-aroo with blood samples or something.. to have it fizzle out is a little, um... boring?
uhhhh......no
