Gawker Stalker

22 Apr 2003 by Matthew Linderman

Gawker is now offering a new feature: the Gawker Stalker. “Send me celebrity sightings (i.e., Renee Zellweger, Nobu, 12:40PM) and I’ll post them in real time,” reads the site.

The scary part is that I can see this totally taking off. Can’t you just imagine spotters getting rated (a la eBay) on the accuracy of their sightings? And stalkers/fans/’razzi rushing to spots where a celeb is rumored to be? Yikes.

There's already a service similar to this one available as a listserve that's sent to subscribers' cell phones via email or SMS (though I can't find much about it at google.com). The users posts to the list in real time and anyone in proximity can get a gander of someone famous.

I would like to see a site where people could share sexual enccounters with celebrities. Who? How good? How did it happen? Etc...

I have heard good ones from a few from people I have met.

I have some stories about Catherine Zeta-Jones that you just would *not* believe.

Mostly because they're not true HA HA.

People of idolize people are shallow. Come on, folks ... get off it. Buy a mountain bike and Go Play Outside.

Then shouldn't you be outside right now? It's not idolizing, it's an interest in a specific interaction between the "untouchables" and us. Maybe I am the only one.

I'm not talking about interest ... I'm talking about the good folks who live for E! and gossip shows and the Oscars.

I'll be outside when I'm done working today, not to worry. My weight set is primed and ready in my home gym, then I'm outside!

Oh - yeah those people suck. BTW, I am leaving for the gym in 20 minutes...

SMS messaging of celebrities, I read has happened in japan, where thousands of fans arrived in masses to gawk at a celebrity. I feel sorry for celebrities everywhere.... I also read of a world group of protestors that rally action via cells and SMS getting thousands of people to protest within minutes of a message.

You feel "sorry" for celebrities? Those people who crave attention, who live for adoration, applause and fame?

No way. Granted, there are some who feel they have a gift and they wish to share it with their fellow humans, but that's a tiny percentage. I do some work with some "celebrities", and their egos are almost as huge as mine.

And that, my friend, is saying something. :-)

If an application is designed well, the reward for users is that they will learn it faster, accomplish their daily tasks more easily, and have fewer questions for the help desk. As a developer of a well-designed application, your returns on that investment are more upgrade revenue, reduced tech support, better reviews, less documentation, and higher customer satisfaction. The rewards of building a good-looking Aqua application are worth taking the extra time.
