Question: how do restaurants, delis, pizza joints, etc. get those autographed 8x10 photos of the celebrities (or pseudo-celebs) who have dined there? Do these celebs carry around 8x10 headshots all the time, just in case? Maybe the celeb mails the photo at a later date? Anyone?
I think you can actually just mail the celebrity a letter asking for one and they will send you one. The father of a friend of mine has autographed 8x10's of probably 500 celebrities. They cover every wall in his house. He works at a prison-hospital type thing (not sure what those are called) and has the prisoners write celebrities for him in exchange for cigarettes or extra jell-o or whatever they want.
Yes, in some cases you can just write in and request one. There are also stores (such as Movie Star News in NYC) that sell these types of photos at $5 (and up) a pop.
When I used to do video packaging, my clients would send me there for photos. I can't tell you how many times I've seen the same shots gracing the walls of a dive pizzeria.
I carry a stack with me. Makes it easier when they ask, and you get the pleasure of seeing the pure joy on their faces when you give it.
You can order free signed 8 x 10 black-and-white glossies of your favorite Weather Channel TV personalities. Sometimes, if you're lucky (like I have been), they'll send you TWO by accident...so i've got two nice, signed Steve Lyonses on my fridge, telling me to "keep on watching." If people ask, I just tell them that he's eaten in my kitchen.
You mean that just because they have the picture of a celebrity, it doesn't mean they've eaten there? All these years of eating in places just because they've got a framed 8x10 of Steve Baskerville or George Wendt! Guess I'll have to stick to those places with the pictures of the celebrity posing in the restaurant with the owner/manager.
My father has quite a collection in his hardware store. Most of the time he just asks them when they show up and they mail them at a later date. He also has a great collection of signed baseball cards which he obtained by sending cards to the home stadiums where the players play. He had about an 80-90% success rate.
Funny you ask. I was at a convention this week for cable advertising, and we had a client dinner with a cast member of one of our shows. We brought the 8" x 10"s; he signed to the clients and the restaurant employees after dinner. So, that's how this particular restaurant got theirs. Others, I imagine, may get theirs from celebs who frequent their establishments. Dry cleaners in Los Angeles seem particularly fond of this tactic.
