Is the MonkeyPox alert level Yellow or Orange?

Actually lots of animals carry pox viruses, it's a bit scary. I used to catch and band songbirds for field research projects, and lots of the birds in our nets had pox viruses that deformed their legs and feet. Fortunately none of the varieties we encountered were contagious to humans, although we may have helped spread the virus from bird to bird as we handled them.

Now, about the 37 -- I've gone through your site, read the interview, etc. but still have no clue where the name "37Signals" comes from. I suppose I'm just hopelessly naive or out of touch with some element of culture that everyone else is cued into, but please, what does "37Signals" refer to?

I think it's just a name. There were 37 points to their manifesto.

Of which one gave you the answer.

I'm looking forward to 37BetterMonkeyPox.

Will there be a 37BetterMonkeyPox?

hurl#1-- keep digging, I believe their original site is still up on the new site... and it clearly defines what the 37 Signals are. And it's a lot more elegant than me typing it here.

Actual CNN.com headline: "CDC: Prairie dogs could be spreading monkeypox"

You just can't make stuff like that up.

tsk . . . and there's me still thinking there must be some clever allusion going on to Grammar of Ornament, 37 Axioms of Design by Owen Jones

Best headline i've seen so far is Pet prairie dogs give Yanks monkeypox from the Edmonton News. This story has re-opened my eyes to the rich prairie dogs as pets community that exists out there.

Jesper- I would have had you... I should have been the 3rd post but my lousy dial up took me from 3rd to 5th. I actually wrote a follow up, which couldn't even get through!! Beware, nemesis, I'll shall rise again...

So why is it "monkeypox" if it's being spread by prairie dogs?

So why is it "monkeypox" if it's being spread by prairie dogs?

It's a virus of African origin; in Africa it's carried by monkeys and wild squirrels. In the States, the theory is that some imported rodent (a rat or a squirrel) spread the diseases to prairie dogs in pet shops, and now the pet prairie dogs are spreading it to humans.

(Sorry if this gets posted twice -- I posted once and got an error so am posting again)

That's why they call them "varmints".

What are the symptoms? Jumping up & down? Is that why it's called Monkey Pox?

At WWDC, I listened to Apple representatives make some excellent points about taking the time to build a 100%-compliant Aqua application, and I think all developers need to look beyond the code and listen to what the folks at Apple have to say

For example, if you see an AIM window peeking out from behind your browser and you click on it, that window will come to the front, but the main application window will not. The Mail.app/Activity Viewer is another example. The Aqua system of layers works well in many instances, but not in all. Thank goodness that the Dock is always there to come to the rescue. I know that clicking on an application icon in the Dock will always result in not only the application coming to the front, but also any non-minimized windows associated with it. And if the application is active but no windows are open, clicking on the Dock icon should create a new window in that application.
