From an email from my friend Jim:
“If you were an energy company called POWERGEN & you had a subsidiary that operated in Italy, what would you call the company’s website? probably not www.powergenitalia.com, but… they did: www.powergenitalia.com
Wow, frames are so 1994; kinda like the rest of their site.
Also, why not just do powergen.com/italy; or make italian a choice on the web site? Why do we need a new domain for every iteration on a theme.
I keep laughing Beavis and Butthead style. That these kinds of things manage to slip by unnoticed is beyond me.
Still funny as hell, though.
It's not real.
Well, it's for a real company called Powergen in Italy. But it's not the Powergen UK company. This Powergen sells "specialized battery products." (More on Snopes.)
For those of you too lazy to read:
The powergenitalia.com domain apparently hosts the web site of a real Italian company which sells specialized battery products.
it is real.. its just not the uk company as Andy Baio mentioned
Another one culled from Elegant Hack: expertsexchange.com
Or indeed
www.antiquesexchange.com
Then of course the site that lists celebrities and the agents that represent them. Obviously.
www.whorepresents.com
Perhaps someone in Powergen has played with the NetSol Brainstorm gadget...
