Back from SxSW 2004

17 Mar 2004 by Jason Fried

Back from this year’s South by Southwest. Had a great time, saw old friends, and met some others for the first time (including Michael Schmidt, Doug Bowman, The OK-Cancel guys, Dave Shea, Jason Shellen, Sarah Hatter, Anitra Pavka, Nick Bradbury, Brian Alvey (well, I’d met him before, but barely), Jay Allen, and plenty of others.

Special thanks to Hugh Forrest for finding me a last minute speaking slot and hooking up the book signing (thanks to Borders for that too). For those who are interested, you can download my “Three Little Things” presentation as a 2.5 MB PDF (although it might not make a whole lot of sense without me talking over it). Here’s a nice little review of my session.

Hey Jason. Good to meet you/see you again. Drop me a line about what you wanted to talk about. I missed you later on in the night.

Jason, you are living the life I only dream about, owning a successful company, gallivanting all over the globe to speak and vacation, writing a book.

I'm stuck here with my wine, cigars and a wife with a culinary degree.

Wait ... on second thought ...

Congrats, Jason. Keep up the good work.

P.S. Ever notice that even when I don't have anything to say, I say something? I'm so full of myself, it isn't funny.

Life can be great sometimes.

:)

More:

Jason, the "Context and Perspective" section is fantastic. It's one of those things that, after you see it, you then get frustrated when those usability steps are not taken.

(and I want that Motorola mobile phone)

I saw the Mercedes web site a few weeks back while ... er ... shopping (*sheepish grin*).

Even MORE:

RE: Setting Expectations

I REALLY like it when an x-step procedure shows all the steps (1, 2, 3, 4) with a short description under each step with highlights to show you where you are.

I'm redesigning some intranet stuff here now (no matter what Joel Spolsky says, I gotta rewrite ...) and I'm going to take your cues and ideas.

Jason, you da man.

DON - EVEN MORE!!

I'm starting to get jealous of all the attention you're giving Jason. (Although, yes, he is infact da man.)

I guess I was one of the "plenty of others," but it was good to meet you in person for the first time. I wish we could have spoken for longer.

I've also made a list of other SXSW postings if anyone is interested.
