No Name No Slogan labs “tests this years must-have device against one of the all time great audio formats.”
This poor guy's going to feel like he's been slashdotted now that David Pogue linked to his site in his weekly Circuits e-mail from the NY Times. I wonder if .Mac still blocks access to sites after they get too much traffic?
It's funny, I've been slowly converting the best music from my several hundred cassettes into digital format; my plan was to get rid of the cassette collection after I was done converting them but I can't seem to bring myself to do it. They do last a long time, so now I consider them my tape backup system. I still have cassettes that my sister made for me in the late 1970s and they sound as good as new.
Of course, this guy failed to take into account that you need something to play the cassette tape in (whereas the iPod is the player as well as the media).
Wouldn't a more fair comparison be to compare an old walkman to the iPod?
He forgot the biggest plus for the cassette...that plasticky, new-cassette smell...ah...memories!...
... and the tape getting eaten by your player ... and the tape jamming ... and dropping the 23 tapes you're trying to carry to your Pinto ...
...and the worst one...where the tape gets stretched a bit so the next time you listen to it you get that subtle, but nasty pitch-shift in a middle of a song. Eww.
No ... the whole owning a Pinto thing is what's worst. :-)
Or how about when you repair a torn tape and accidently get it twisted. Halfway through Electric Light Orchestra's "Turn To Stone", it starts playing backwards. ARGH!
next I'd like to see a comparison between the newest plasma TVs and drive-in movies
bocigalingus must be something funny.
