A camera arrived from Russia, via eBay.
As if the rope/cord wasn’t cool enough… The guy stitched the foam together!
I'm currently living in Russia and this looks all too familiar. Be glad the guy packed it so well ... he did it for good reason :-)
The first photo looks like a big tamale with rope and all. :D
Looks like how my grandfather wrapped packages until twine was outlawed on packages. Of course, I have to ask... "where's the duct tape"? Everyone knows a good packing job requires a roll of duct tape.
In India, there are legions of people who make a living from wrapping parcels.
They sit outside the post offices armed with calico, needle & thread, sealing wax, glue and all sorts of other paraphernalia.
For a few rupees they will wrap your object in calico, immaculately stitch it up and then seal all the hems with wax to tamper-proof the parcel. It's then ready to face the rigors of the Indian Postal system.
To be exact, it seems this packet comes from Ukraine, not Russia, because the city name written is Kiev.
Ah ... "The Great Gate Of Kiev" ... my all-time favorite piece of music.
bongoman: that's excellent. It makes me want to buy any old tat just for something wrapped so well to go on the office shelf!
Ever thought about this being done due to pure economical reasons not due to coolnes? In must countries around the world, a piece of sewing twine is just so much cheaper than any form of scotch tape or alike.
I love it how they for instance use leaves in indonesia to craft all kinds of packaging... doesn't cost them anything but time and is enviroment friendly.

Oh, I'm sure -- it was just cool to me.
I'm betting it's a Lomo. What other camera from Russia (or Ukraine, for that matter) is worth the hassle?
"The Great Gate Of Kiev" ... my all-time favorite piece of music.
Mine too, Don. Mussorgsky is my fave of the Russian Five.
I'm from Russia. You may laugh, but in most post offices we have special 'grandma', who stitches any big package. Why not tape? I don't know... Just nobody cares of it, I think.
It looks, like man had to show, what is inside of package in the post office. So, it's his foam, and grandma's stitches
