We’re ready to put on a Building of Basecamp workshop on the east coast (preferrably NYC, Boston, or DC), but we don’t know where to do it. We’d like to stay away from sterile hotel conference rooms. Does anyone have any recommendations? Anyone with an office, loft, or gallery space that can handle 40-50 people want to rent out their space for a day? Please let me know. Thanks.
BTW: If you want to be notified when we hold this workshop (or other 37signals events or annoucements), please sign up for our periodic mailing list:
If Philadelphia was an option there are plenty of places where you could pull this off.
Just to name a few places:
Philadelphia Ethical Society
Vox Populi Gallery
First Unitarian Church
Arden Theater
Prince Theater
Space 1026 ( may be a little small)
University of the Arts
Painted Bride Arts Center
yes, come to Philly!
I, too, am from the Philadelphia area, but I already went out to the Chicago workshop. I don't have any say in it, but if you went to NYC you could check with Joel Spolsky and FogCreek. Maybe you could do something jointly and include the Building of FogBugz in a second day.
East Coast? Did somebody say "East Coast"??
Woo-hooo!! I'll finally get to infect Jason, et al.
May I suggest Atlanta? Georgia Tech's has a brand new hotel and conference center that isn't particularly sterile (IMO). In fact, it's pretty slick. Plus it's accessible by public transit. Plus Atlanta is a major airline hub.
There's also the King Plow Arts Center. You might also try the folks at Macquarium. They have their own auditorium. Hands On Atlanta some ex-warehouse office space as well.
I'll be making this trip whenever announced, but if you guys partnered with FogCreek that would be AMAZING. Thier office on thier website looks top notch, and it's an amzing company. Would definately be worth the trip.
FYI, we just announced a Building of Basecamp Workshop in Seattle on January 27.
i was about to suggest GaTech's new conference center as well. very slick. spoke at a wifi conference there this summer and it was very well handled.
come to atl!
Boston is ripe for this type of workshop. JF, check your email for some info I sent along. We just hosted a bunch of net big wigs this week, too.
I own a 1200 sq ft loft in Philly that I'd be willing to rent out for the day. Let me know if it's something you're interested in.
Philly would be perfect. Another Philly sugestion is WHYY. Great space.
If you are thinking about DC I would suggest you give George Washington or John Hopkins University a call. They both have very nice facilities and are easy to get to.

If it's in Philly, you can count on me going. My second choice would be NY.
You could do it in my living room for free (as long as I get to attend for free, of course ;-) ). I'm in Cincinnati, though.
I'll make it to Philly or down to DC. I probably won't make the trip to NYC because of the eight hour train commute.
Jason, I'll be in DC for PyCon 2005 in late March, so I'd be interested in attending BoB during the same trip.
