Coexist

28 Dec 2004 by Matthew Linderman

Combine religious symbols to spell coexist and then start a clothing line (Flash site) based on the logo. Pretty cool.

What? No pentagrams?

And you can't buy them online.

I wonder if you can combine religious symbols to spell out "Please stop putting naff auto-playing musak on your websites, it's rubbish, really, I have the radio on so it's just not necessary, in fact, it's quite annoying."

I like the logo concept, though :)

Hmm. Clever idea on the logo, but to be honest, I'm not thrilled withe execution.

Another useless site developed in Flash. Don't they know you don't need Flash to show slideshows on websites? And what's with the music? They sell clothes not music. This ain't no high street store. How do I get the e-mail addresses? Oh right. I have to write them down.

Unfortunately, no sales on-line.
And the retailers do not seem to sell on line.
The idea is great, the design is great, but it seems hard to get them when you are not in these 6 cities where they have retailers.

Besides the potentially controversial and hideous logo, all I see is like 4 tshirts that might be slightly higher quality than threadless'

Any site that disrespects my choice of browser window size earns an immediate back button. And from the comments I'm glad I hit it before the music started playing.

I wonder what form the discussion would take if the logo was made from Microsoft, Apple and Linux icons.

If I recall correctly this was a part of a coexistance exhibition with more artwork on the same theme by various artists, not sure if it just passed through Jerusalem or if that's where it was meant to be. I never saw it myself, but I've heard the artwork was hung from the old Jerusalem Wall recently, all lighted up... Must have been nice.

We had that picture hanging at my work in Jerusalem also.

'Pretty cool'? I disagree.

Pretentious, patronising, superficial, annoying wank. Gesture politics at its very worst.

"Gesture politics at its very worst."

I'd say things like invading countries on false pretensions, attempting to pass arbitrarily discriminatory legislation and things like prison torture in the name of 'intelligence' to be gesture politics at its worse. In otherwords, a t-shirt with a message of unity hardly seems to do much harm.

Finally with this logo these three groups can hold hands in circle and smile lovingly at each other (every heart aglow with a warm tolerance for the others misguided heretical nonsense and self assured in their own one-only-true-complete-perfect connection with perfection itself). The good thing about having different religions is that the outwardly directed hatred limits the conflict and violence within. Too cynical?

This might sound weird, but the first thing I saw when I read it was "Coke Is It"... I have no idea why...

29 Dec 2004 | Jonny Roader said...

Fair enough Darrel. I think we're working from different ideas of gesture politics, but point taken.

But Lisa ... Coke IS it.

:-)

Pah. Pepsi is it, quite obviously.

Funny... easiest way to find a pessimist, is to suggest something positive.

Does anyone understand the fashion industry? Selling a new label direct cuts opportunity to sell to boutiques and department chains.

I called the Indianapolis store and bought one for each member of my family.

enjoy
