Orange You Glad?

15 Feb 2005 by Matthew Linderman

Whoever’s in charge of PR for the color orange is doing a bangup job. When you consider Ukraine’s recent Orange Revolution, “The Gates” saffron hubbub, and Jeanne-Claude’s hair, it’s a pretty impressive run. Soon March Madness brackets will make the rounds; Don’t underestimate the Orange of Syracuse.

I'm in charge of PR for the color green so if anybody has something coming up with green in it just, you know, contact me. Thanks.

Don't forget the orange M&M's, where Megan McGowan can't think of a rhyme for "orange".

Which is silly. Years and years ago, the witchiepoo on H.R. Pufnstuf sang "Oranges, smoranges, who said their ain't no rhyme for 'oranges'?".

Maybe if we're lucky there will be a resurfacing of Oran "Juice" Jones with all of this 80's revival going on too!

Don't forget the burnt orange of the University of Texas starting out the year with the big Rose Bowl victory.

I'm a Kansas Jayhawks fan, but if we're being realistic, i think it's the the Illinois Fighting Illini that can expect to to be this March's ambassadors of orange.

Do The Gates remind anybody else of the film, "The Village"?

Orange fabrics and leaveless trees. For some reason, it just connects. Maybe because I enjoyed the film so much.

Ze Gates are overrated. Big time.

All kids love smack.

(Sorry. Not meant to be an ad, but we've been orange for 3 years now. Orange has been good to us.)

And, of course, orange is the colour of communication.

damn, you are old don. hr pufnstuf? they play that at berlin in chicago... hehe.

When Christo had packaged the Reichstag in Berlin they handed out small pieces of the fabric to visitors such that they would not cur out a piece by themself. Do they do the same with the orange fabric in NYC?

BTW: I like the picture; is there a high-res version of it?

conceptual art meets queer eye for the straight guy: "It's not orange, it's saffron".

But more importantly, do you know how to make an orange?

17 Feb 2005 | Allan White said...

I chose orange as our color when we started our high-energy, kid-centric non-profit. It's served us well; orange has only gotten more popular over the last few years.

That may bite us in the backside when it falls from disfavor in a few years...

Let's not forget - the completely brilliant and beautiful cracker exhibit.

Looks like orange has become so popular that companies are filing lawsuits to prevent competitors from using it.

And yes, I've been guilty of using the color orange on my personal site for a year or two now.

I can't believe that guy thinks a series of orange gates is "Art".

Apparently his thing is putting orange fabric on things and calling it art.
