I like this one from Branson:
Bill Gates invited me to talk to thirty or forty chief executives from around the world. Just before I got up on stage, forms were handed out to everybody, and Gates said, “It’s very important that all of us are tested in our lives. Richard’s about to speak and I’d like you all to mark him 1 out of 10.” Now, that intimidated me. I thought, Fuck, I thought I’d gotten out of school thirty-five years ago. I turned to the guy on my rightI think he was the head of Amazonand said, “I’ll give you a 10 if you give me a 10.”

Kirk Douglas:
I never wanted to be a movie actor. I started out on the stage. The first time I was invited out here, I turned it down. Then Michael was born and I needed money, so I came. Sometimes, the thing that ties you down sets you free.
