Captain Slow is great! :-) I am also every time impressed by the high production value of Top Gear creations. Great image composition and usage of music!
Cannot wait for the next series. “Brokeback, Brokeback, this is the Murderer.” LOL

Why didn’t The Stig do the driving?

Why would you need The Stig to go straight? He also doesn’t talk and you wouldn’t have Captain Slow (he of all) go the fastest a production car goes.

@Ted: Bugatti wouldn’t let the Stig give it a timed run.
And man this is old! In a more recent episode they announced a possible Veyron killer, forgotten what it’s called though.
@sam: remember that america is really far behind in top gear shows. The uk has finished the latest series now and i just want the next one to start so badly.

MAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAN. Just wanna sit there for a minute.
That video misses out the chat afterwards where he describes how it messes with your sense of speed. Paraphrased:
“You know how you get impatient, and you open the door when your car’s almost stopped and put your foot out? I was about to do that, when I looked at the speedo and realised I was still doing 70 mph.”

Impractical, overpriced even for how fast it is, and completely irrelevant in a peak oil world.
So that’s how Volkswagen saves the environment. ;-)
I appreciate that they didn’t test the car’s top speed on the Autobahn. On many tracks on German Autobahns you could do that legally. Incredible!
Warning: Even on sections with no speed limit we have a so-called recommended speed (130 km/h ~ 81 mph) in Germany. If you exceed that recommendation (a lot) and it comes to an accident, established case-law is that you are always (!) (partially) responsibe, regardless of which you are the causer or not. Of course, (almost) nobody cares …
Given the current discussion about global warming I wonder how long it takes until the Germans come up with a speed limit (finally).
Thank God the German Autobahn opens only on sundays (as well as Black Forest;-)

Check out the enthusiasm and how his face is showing nothing but childish fascination! Driving that car would be one thing, doing something that would me give that feeling another… So, 2 great reasons – please send me one…

In one of Clarkson’s recent newspaper columns he said he wasn’t to be in Top Gear again. The BBC claim he is though. It’s a bit weird. Personally I think he might be taking the show to ITV or something.
Yup. Nothing like taking your car out for a spin on a weeknight on the good ol’ Autobahn… I drive 75mph.. on the exit lane :)
Thank God our Traffic Minister did just vote against a general speed limit, AGAIN.

Eric Sendelbach: if I remember my physics correctly, air resistance is quadratic to velocity. Resistance = Cv^2 in other words. Hence the need for a much greater increase in horsepower to achieve the last 100 MPH of 253 MPH

At 7-10 mpg with each gallon of gas putting 20 lbs of CO2 in the atmosphere, that’s about 2.4 lbs of CO2 per mile traveled. In about 2 days of average driving you’ve pumped out the average guy’s weight in greenhouse gasses.
Guess I’ll have to wait for the plug-in hybrid or TDI model.

I’m sure Jason will give us a personal review when he gets his, right? :-)
Not sure if you has this in mind Jason, but the thing that’s most striking about the Bugatti is the fact that the car is quite stable at very speeds. It also has a comfortable interior and all-wheel drive. It all adds up to a high degree of usability, especially compared to an Enzo.
As for the green comments, keep in mind that they are only making 300 of these, and they won’t exactly be daily drivers.
Also, the car is a rolling testbed for new technology, a lot of which will make vanilla VWs lighter, stronger, and therefore greener.
Last night while taking my wife to pick up her Buick from the shop (wear and tear stuff), I told her about this car and this video.
Her typically female response: “And you’re telling me this why??”
She … just … doesn’t … get it. sigh

I think you’re talking about Koeningsegg or something like that. It’s a Swedish supercar with something like 1200 HP.
