Be fearful when others are greedy, and be greedy when others are fearful…What is likely is that the market will move higher, perhaps substantially so, well before either sentiment or the economy turns up. So if you wait for the robins, spring will be over.

on 17 Oct 08Although I dig the content of these quick posts, I am overwhelmed with the need to say that I really find them bothersome and detracting from the once very enjoyable experience of reading this blog.
Perhaps they deserve their own blog and you can highlight some favorites in the same way you’ve implemented the product blog highlights…too much noise…

on 17 Oct 08I agree with Chase, this blog was better when it was focused.

on 17 Oct 08I actually like the shorter, more frequent posts.
Regarding the Buffett quote, notice he’s not addressing P/E ratios or earnings estimates. He’s speaking to two of our most fundamental emotions—greed and fear.
Our belief at BehaviorGap.com is that is your emotional discipline and ultimately your behavior which will have the biggest impact on your investment experience over time.
Mr. Buffett seems to agree.
Thanks for the post—timely and important.

on 17 Oct 08Personally, I enjoy the more frequent updates and quick posts. They have been insightful and interesting. Keep it up!

Shhhhh… That’s questioning the infallible wisdom of the 37S staff.

on 17 Oct 08I have this on an RSS feed, and the QUOTE: in the title lets me know what it is….I’m missing the problem. I only follow it when I have time. I like it. Doug

on 17 Oct 08On the one hand I agree a bit with Doug….for the same reasons.
(On the other hand there are 4 fingers and a thumb.)
Chase does have a point though. Maybe it’s just harder to come up with deep content without being too redundant?
So many good things have been said here already.
I say we give the 37S guys a break. It’s not like they owe us anything.
I’m grateful for the morsels I’ve been given. Thanks guys…keep up the good work!

on 17 Oct 08I agree they are both insightful, interesting and enjoyable. I don’t want anyone to doubt that. I guess I just lack the ability to filter these out on my own (i end up reading them all). For years I have used this blog as insight into potential improvements to how I approach software development. Perhaps I am the one who needs to adapt but my knee jerk reaction is to say the blog suddenly feels less impactful…although equally addicting…

pump and dump, pump and dump.

on 17 Oct 08@Chase. You think too much. I liked this post and if you use your RSS reader properly you can scan the headlines and decide ‘hey, not gonna read this one”.
I don’t see people writing to the newspaper saying that there are too many little articles distracting from the bigger pieces.
Its up to you to filter your own information. I don’t think that the guys at 37 signals decided to post more often and in smaller bite sized fragments to piss off Chase like your self centered comment pissed me off!
Cheers.

on 18 Oct 08There’s an abundance of feeds to subscribe to and I’m just letting them know that I appreciate feeds that keep focus and take the filtering burden off me.
I like to think there’s room for feedback in this world beyond the “put-up-or-shut-up” mentality expressed in some of the comments, especially with a company like 37 Signals that has such a well developed concept of community.
I shudder to think what it would be like if even a tenth of the feeds I subscribe to decided to branch into general things they find interesting. Talk about Noise vs. Signal.
That said I’m still subscribed and still enjoying the feed and not the least bit surprised at having to don a suit of armor to share an opinion.

on 19 Oct 08I’m okay with the frequent, small posts. But I only read about 5% of posts from the blogs I subscribe too. Mostly I skim through with Google Reader.
This quote and link is a gem and I’m glad Signal vs. Noise posted it.
