This holiday season 37signals is partnering with our new neighbors in the West Loop of Chicago to gift the children of William Brown Elementary School with new clothes and toys.
William Brown Elementary currently reports 96% of its students receiving public aid, and we’ve committed along with Converse, Hurley, Soul City Church, the Kyle Korver Foundation and many other local companies to create a Christmas store. Families can purchase new, donated items for Christmas gifts at crazy low prices, and all proceeds will go directly back into Brown Elementary.
For our part, 37signals will be collecting new toys (not in wrapping paper) at our Chicago Office until December 17.
You can drop off your toys and good cheer to our office between 10am and 5pm, Monday-Friday. [MAP]
We’re excited to join with our neighbors for this great cause, and hope all local friends of 37signals will join in too!
The Christmas Store event takes place the December 18, 9-12pm at Soul City Church. All profits from the store are being donated back into Brown Elementary.

on 07 Dec 10Awesome. Did they misspell the name of “Sole City” on the sign though?
dude
on 07 Dec 10Unwrapped? I think you meant ‘wrapped’, isn’t an unwrapped toy by definition not new anymore? And even if not, how would one tell if a toy was new if it wasn’t in it’s packaging.
This is all ignoring the fact that turning down charity of any kind is kind of blah, but whatever :)

on 07 Dec 10Hey Joe – actually, no, the sign is correct. In addition to all of our other donations, Converse is graciously donating shows – hence, Sole.
Megan Downey
on 07 Dec 10Hi, Dude – thanks for your comments and interest! Actually, “unwrapped” is correct. We want parents to have the full experience of shopping, so they get an opportunity to pick out exactly what they’d like for their families, and see all of their options. Then, we’ll provide gift-wrapping for them at the Sole City Store.

on 07 Dec 10I love it you guys “37signals” just get at so many levels.
thomas
on 07 Dec 10so what exactly are you guys doing? just collecting toys?
Kevin
on 07 Dec 10Unwrapped, as in don’t put wrapping paper on. Not as in, box has been opened. :)
Bryan
on 07 Dec 10I think they mean new (packaged) toys, not wrapped in Christmas wrapping paper. So, bring in new toys that are in their packaging, but do not gift wrap them. I don’t think this is like Good Will, where you can bring in used toys. Megan, you can check me if I am wrong.
I plan on bringing some toys down next week.
37s… Thanks for the opportunity to help!
Megan Downey
on 07 Dec 10You guys are awesome!
Thanks Bryan – you’re correct. We mean not wrapped as in not gift-wrapped, but still in their original packaging from the store. We are looking for new items because we want to make this as much like a store as possible for these families, so the parents can take pride in being able to purchase new items themselves.
Thank you all so much for your help!

Megan Downey
on 08 Dec 10Hi, Bob! We are looking for new toys that are still in their packaging from the store.
