Our book REWORK was featured in Steven Soderbergh’s movie Contagion. This character loves it so much—she has 2 copies of it! Contagion is available for pre-order at Amazon.
You’re reading Signal v. Noise, a publication about the web by Basecamp since 1999. Happy !

on 19 Dec 11Wait, who doesn’t have two copies? One for yourself and one to give away at all times is essential.

on 19 Dec 11Awesome. This takes ‘audience’ to a new meaning. Product placement, or is this yet another tendril of the 37signals teaching philosophy paying you back?
Nate
on 19 Dec 11Were you guys just watching the movie and happen to spot it? Or does some movie person have to get some kind of permission from you when things like that happen?
Chris
on 19 Dec 11I noticed this when watching it in the cinemas, was meant to write in and see if you knew but just assumed you did ;)
I’m not one to notice things like this so it’s either the great product placement or the distinctive design that made it stand out for me. Or perhaps it’s both.
JD
on 19 Dec 11Nate, it was a surprise for us to see it. There were no lucrative product placement deals or anything like that at all.
To the art director/set designer/props/PA that put those copies of REWORK in that scene: “Thank you!”

on 19 Dec 11Check out the 9/9/11tweet.
Joe
on 19 Dec 11I almost laughed when I saw that – and leaned over to my buddy and pointed it out! I’m pretty sure there’s a copy in one of Jude Law’s scenes, too.

on 19 Dec 11Awesome to see traces of 37s in mainstream media! Rework certainly deserves it.
AC
on 19 Dec 11Who’s Steven Soderbergh?
Seriously.
Berserk
on 20 Dec 11AC: This or that should answer your question.
If indeed you were serious.

on 20 Dec 11Rework certainly deserves it; fantastic; I’ve read it two times and shared the book with my classmates and they like it as well.
GeeIWonder
on 20 Dec 11Hurray! Also featured in notable flicks: Le Rouge et le Noir and Mein Kampf. Congrats though

on 20 Dec 11Someone just downloaded a torrent! It’s weeks ahead of the ability to capture that image legally! Is Rework available on the pirate bay? :)
mc
on 20 Dec 11Does anyone know if and when the paperback version of REWORK is coming out? Thanks. To the guy who put them in the scene: Next film, please include Getting Real too!
Mr. Cynical
on 20 Dec 11Or they just bought an unsold lot of books or stock from a bankrupt bookshop on the cheap to use as props…

on 20 Dec 11Watched this movie two days ago. Happy for Rework. :-)

on 21 Dec 11Mad cool. Congrats!
Minty
on 21 Dec 11Not that this isn’t cool and all, but it’s seems like quite a stretch to refer to this as being “featured”. It’s in a pile. With a lot of other books. In the background.
swen
on 22 Dec 11very cool, checked that movie yesterday. Congrats!

on 22 Dec 11Apparently you have San Francisco Chronicle reporter, Benny Evangelista, to thank. According the always interesting IMDB Trivia for Contagion:
“The actual desk of Benny Evangelista, reporter for the San Francisco Chronicle, appears in the film as Lorraine Vasquez’s desk. Evangelista’s desk is notoriously messy, and was left as it was by the crew.”
