It’s always satisfying to announce the release of one of the top Basecamp feature requests. Today is one of those days. We’re glad to announce that to-dos with due dates now show up on the all new Basecamp calendar.
Prior to this update, only events that were directly added to the calendar showed up on the calendar. But as of today, any to-dos with due dates also show up on the calendar. And just like events, you can drag and drop to reschedule a to-do. Very handy.
Now you have a much better view of everything that’s due in a project. To-dos, events, meetings, project phases, etc. – now you can see them all at the same time on a single calendar.
We’re really happy with how it turned out. We hope you love it.
Here’s a quick video showing you how it works.

on 16 Apr 12hands down one of the best features on the new BC – thanks for adding this.

on 16 Apr 12Congrats, guys. This is awesome!

on 16 Apr 12Awesome! Thanks for this addition.

on 16 Apr 12Nice feature! It almost does away with the to-do reminder email, almost. Thank you
Jeff Koke
on 16 Apr 12Thanks Jason. This was my top request and sorely needed for my workflow. It works great and the dragging and dropping is a huge time saver for me. My only request now would be to allow me to add dated to-dos directly from the calendar interface. Right now I can only add events. If I want to add a to-do, I have to go to the individual project.

on 16 Apr 12Yet another feature that fit so seamlessly in. I like, that when 37signals add a feature, it does not feel like a new feature, it feels like it has been there since the day one only you haven’t discovered it yet. Well done!
Jeff
on 16 Apr 12Thanks for adding this feature :)
I second mr. Koke’s request and would like to add that being able to filter a project’s calendar by person would be fantastic!

on 16 Apr 12So good – exactly what I needed!

on 17 Apr 12great needed feature. only missing the ability to filter by person, possibly even color by person, otherwise it is too cluttered.
Jason
on 17 Apr 12Cool feature, however I agree with the other comment filtering by person MUST be added! It get’s a bit cluttered and also could do with displaying more characters of the todo name!
I would also like to be able to have todos which last over multiple days, at the moment I have to move them every day when they are taking longer than a day. I could do with being able to show a schedule of work that lasts longer than a day

on 17 Apr 12I think you can filter by person by going to that Person’s page in Basecamp (or indeed your personal page). I think that’s sufficient. The Calendar is more of an over view of activity streams across any Projects selected. If you want to get specific then go to the project or person you want to be specific about.

on 17 Apr 12It’s getting so close to us being able to make the switch! We’re just missing filtering by person as others have mentioned.
Matt, your comment made me hopeful, but I just checked it out and that solution is not good enough. It takes a ton of clicks and you don’t end up being able to see a calendar view.

on 17 Apr 12Filtering is something we’ll be considering down the road.

on 18 Apr 12Great feature. I’d like to have the possibility to “unselect all” calendar to clear the view and choose the ones I’m working on. The other way around (unselecting one by one) it’s not fast enough. Thanks

on 18 Apr 12Are you guys following closely the Google Calendar model? First, multiple calendars, color-coded, now todos with due dates shown on the calendar (exactly like g-tasks can be shown on your g-calendar).
This definitely makes synchronizing Basecamp todos and events to Google tasks and events more natural for our service.
Just wondering if Google calendar plays any role in your decision making …
Thanks

on 19 Apr 12Love to-dos being added to the calendar and would like to +1 for the ability to “unselect all”.
slightly off-topic but still to-do related – I just realized yesterday and confirmed with @37signals on twitter that there is currently no way to turn off/opt-out email notifications when a to-do item is assigned and completed. As I assign lengthy check lists of to-do items through bc on many projects – my in-box is being overwhelmed as each individual to-do item is completed and checked-off by staff members.
Would sure like the ability to choose on an account, project or to-do list basis if I wish to receive (or not) email notifications each time an item is completed.

on 20 Apr 12Hey guys,
I’m so happy to see this happen shortly after launch. This was the only real showstopper for us, so we will start to gradually migrate from BCC to BC now.
I do however second the request for filtering by asignee so I can check what’s on a specific person’s plate and reassign or reschedule accordingly.
Great work – great weekend! Markus

on 20 Apr 12You shod invest some time to make a proper help docs. Using Basecamp is piece of cake for developers and advanced users but for a lot of regular users it’s not. I have to explain to my co-workers how to use Basecamp instead to let them to read docs.
