Seeing the post-it notes and paper tablet (in the picture) makes me laugh.
It appears Basecamp isn’t good for everything.

Hybrid-native app release for Basecamp on lots of devices and OSes would be my dream guess. :-) If anyone, I would say the 37signals team has what it takes to make that a reality.

Even though I don’t like the language Chuck Norris used … I do though completely agree in what he had to say.
The quality of this blog has been near none existent for over a year.
Content wise, it’s on the low-par level Twitter.
37signals, please step up the quality of your posts.

+1 for the 37svn jumping the shark comments
Anonymous Coward
on 13 Dec 12
Posting about ‘jumping the shark is akin to telling your boyfriend he’s not as nice to you anymore as he used to be. Or, on every single vote in the House saying that topics being legislated aren’t as good as they used to be.
Or, more to the point, saying that the propaganda posters aren’t as good as they used to be. It may be true, but it’s just obnoxious in it’s uselessness to keep saying it.
Implied is the belief they’re going to make a concerted effort to increase ‘the quality’ of their posts rather than continue to use them for their intended purpose.

@Anonymous Coward,
I think everyone here understands that the team at 37s have a business to run. The posts themselves are fine for what they are, but I think many of us really miss the meatier posts about actual design, process and usability. Instead we’re seeing posts resembling “I think this is cool” and less of “I think this is cool and here is why”.
But I agree with others in that I’d like to see some longer reads. I don’t think it’s unreasonable for us to expect a little more from the blog. Personally I love this company and while I don’t always have the opportunity to use their products, I’ve come to really enjoy the things these guys have to say about design and usability.
Anonymous Coward
on 13 Dec 12
So…
You either believe they’re going to make a deliberate effort to please blog readers by making longer reads - something they’ve never really done, or ‘meatier’ - things that are apparently difficult to define for the complainants, never mind to the employees.
(I think this is vain and incorrect, basically. They have paying customers and that is/will be there priority—and even then, only under their terms as they have so often written)
or..
You feel some catharsis by whining about it in a place where others can also whine and someone at 37signals can read it even though you know it’s not going to change anything.
(Which is fine, I guess—but I don’t get it.)

Ahh, my dream testing station. Responsive web design
has been my focal point here at my new gig for the past 8 months. I love designing in a grid based system, however we’ve struggled when it comes to testing. Usually it’s trial and error on behalf of our clients – which obviously isn’t the best way to go. Love the inspiration (and excuse) to buy a responsive testing station! Right on Michael.

Apologies to Greg H. for the obscene language. As this ‘blog’ is not frequented by children (I imagine), I hadn’t taken into account that some adults might not be comfortable with expletives.
My point, understandable to people like Greg who seems to be a rational man, is that not everything that 37signals post is worthy of getting drawn into and feeding their “must post, even though we’ve got nothing of interest to say” mindset. Think about it:
“A serious day of testing. Something new in the works?”
I wouldn’t even call it a teaser. There is no tease, just a desk and some computer equipment. No one I know would have the foggiest who these people are. They aren’t Sony or Microsoft are they…?
Use your brains sheeple, please.

One more thing. The ‘About Michael’ photo reminds me of one of those adverts along the lines of “Please send us some money to enable us to let Michael lead a normal life. Even though he needs twenty four hour care, Michael can still enjoy life and has much to offer in his community. Please, phone this number now. Thank you.”

@Anonymous Coward,
I’m saying what they’ve been doing is fine, but that my desire (not my requirement) is to see longer reads more often. But you complicated a simple point to sound smart. So I guess you win in that respect. Congratulations.
Anonymous Coward
on 14 Dec 12
It’s not complicated at all.
People can write about how they desire things to be. This is especially easy, and thus prevalent, when the onus is on others to make a change.
Those who would have to make a change in this case have repeatedly shown they are unwilling or unable to accommodate such requests.
So the only value in making the request then, is as some sort of therapy. I would suggest those in need of such relief should seek better forms thereof. This would be for their own benefit, and also avoid the endless repetition of unrelated whining which itself lessens the quality of the present post and discussion.
