The hardcover version of REMOTE: Office Not Required, our upcoming book on making remote working work for employers and employees, is now available for pre-order from these top online booksellers:
- “REMOTE: Office Not Required” at Amazon.com
- “REMOTE: Office Not Required” at Barnes & Noble
- “REMOTE: Office Not Required” at 800-CEO-READ
The book is planned for release on October 29th, 2013. eBook versions (Kindle, Nook, iBook, etc.) will be available for pre-order shortly, too. It’s up to the book stores to decide when these go live.
If you want to know more about some of the topics covered in REMOTE, here’s a recent interview I did with Quartz.

on 06 Mar 13I’m looking forward to it. Good, but not great timing, what with all the Yahoo! hoo-hah. Because of all that it would be great if it were coming out sooner, so we could have a more informed debate about the subject.

on 06 Mar 13I loved REWORK, but I’m afraid that with the way things have been going lately (Yahoo, Best Buy, Zappos) telecommuting might just be outlawed before the REMOTE release date. If not, then REMOTE is a no-brainer. :-)

on 06 Mar 13Title suggestions for future books by DHH + JF:
RENEGE, REOPEN, RESALE, RETIRE …

on 06 Mar 13Will there be an audio book?

on 06 Mar 13I’m looking forward to read it. I worked from home (in Colombia) for almost 6 years with great results. Miss that time of my life. I was productive and had the chance to work for local and international companies at the same time. Telecommuting requires trust and commitment from both sides.
I don’t agree with Joe. I reckon the timing it’s great to start the conversation.

on 06 Mar 13I wanna leave rush office (where all disturb other peoples), work anywhere and at any time I want – I love travel, but now I must stay in one place all time, and I like work in early morning and evening, but now I can’t :(
And I hope this book will help me, is it true? :) Yeeees, I love 37signals philosophy to work :)

This Trend is over
on 06 Mar 13Yahoo first and now Best Buy ends work-from-home program (http://money.cnn.com/2013/03/05/technology/best-buy-work-from-home/index.html)
When 37signals will joining to the club?
Another choice...
on 06 Mar 13I’ll wait the fourth alternative: “4shared”.

on 07 Mar 13Actually I think it’s perfect timing to release this book. Yahoo is big enough to set a precedence and by most accounts, that precedence is misguided. In the short-term, shutting down remote working agreements might be good, but in the log it becomes a virus to your company’s culture. Yahoo can’t really afford to dilute it’s own company culture right now.

on 07 Mar 13I do now see why you’ve been worked up on Yahoo’s move to ban remote work. That being said, I’ll probably get the book and love it.

on 07 Mar 13Well done!

on 07 Mar 13@ the trend is over
the real truth is that those companies are not doing well and need to cut their costs and payroll dramatically, they are disingenuously giving a plausible excuse for ending remote works but it is really a way to cut staff without getting headlines for workforce reductions, they know they will lose a lot of the remote workers who will refuse to come to an office or who live far from any office and are not willing to relocate
@ 37, DHH, JF
looking forward to the new book, thanks guys

on 07 Mar 13Also looking forward to the new book. My wife and I have restructured our lives to work remotely from two locations. We are definitely happier and more productive from our home office. Our teams are global, so driving into an office would mean long commute times, sitting in a dark cube, and still being on the phone with people around the world. We use modern tools to communicate, build relationships, and stay productive. I’m hoping this negative press goes away soon.
Maybe the 37Signals job board could feature remote working positions.
thanks guys!

on 09 Mar 13Looking forward to it. Amazon mentions an Audio CD. Do you know if the book will make it to audible.com. About the only trying I look forward to when I do travel into the office is listening to audio books.

on 10 Mar 13I work at a very forward thinking small design agency in Toronto, Canada and will start working remotely from a different city in September. Really looking forward to reading this. I only wish it could come out sooner. Nice work. Thanks.

on 10 Mar 13Jason, I’m looking forward to this book. I also think that your title and cover design are terrific. I’m putting my money down for this.
