on 26 Oct 07I’d love to work for you. What do you think of a french guy with a 5 year of PHP background who switched to Rails 2 years ago ? ;)
Maybe I’ll give it a try, and I’ll apply !

on 26 Oct 07:( I just started learning rails after 6 years of ASP.NET. M$ has made me unworthy for even a try out. But I’m really good with CSS, alas that’s not enough.
Good luck, I’m sure you’ll find the perfect person, you always do.

on 26 Oct 07@Brian – I’m in the exact same position. How are you liking RoR compared to ASP.NET so far?
Brian
on 26 Oct 07@Matt
Well for starters I hate programming I prefer design and interaction design (although my degrees are in Math and Physics).
I’ve never been a .NET purist because I don’t like M$ mantra of “Do it our way, because we know what’s best, hey we built Windows after all”. I find myself trying to do simplistic things in .NET and the damn framework gets in my way (from a design perspective).
As for RoR, I’m still trying to wrap my head around some concepts. My biggest problem is biting off more than I can chew and I haven’t been able to stop myself from that yet.
I have trouble knowing which controllers I should create and where some items should go (from a model controller perspective), especially since I’m trying to do things RESTfully (probably should get my feet wet first).
In November I volunteered in my company (all Java and .NET developers who don’t “get” Rails) to give a presentation on Ruby on Rails and how it can help us prototype quickly because out clients never know what they want and change their mind when we built it.
We’ll see if I can persuade those on the dark side to see the light.

on 26 Oct 07ugh…just not quite there yet…like Brian, I am still wrapping my brain around some RoR concepts.
Oh well, good luck 37s, and promise you’ll be looking again in about a year or so ;)

on 28 Oct 07Have you gotten slammed with applications? Personally, I’ve been way to busy with work, since this posted a couple of days ago, but if you are not overloaded with applications, the chance to work with 37s requires finding time to apply properly.

on 28 Oct 07If I was a member of 37Signals I would want to know why these concepts have not gone mainstream corporate. I would love to help expand the job market for true designers and package these concepts into something “big corp” could understand and relate to.
I hate feeling like I am still going upstream with my corporate clients. Functional docs, erroneous usability testing, not engaging the business the right way, etc..
I can’t help but to look at “total comments” on the last few articles on this site and I am perplexed as to where everyone went.. My gut feeling is as I mentioned above.. sooo many people wanting a fresh outlook to application design and a group that will help them push back on bad corporate policy…

on 28 Oct 07Posting that to the job board must have been the least satisfying $300 you guys ever made. ;)

on 29 Oct 07Only now I discovered that laziness can really hurt! The post requires active open source involvement and I’ve been too lazy to do enough of that. I think I have to start that again before considering applying for this.

on 30 Oct 07I think that once you’ll find your new team member, it’ll be worth at least one post to tell how did you manage to handle all those applications you’ve got, how and why did you choose the right person once. And perhaps the lucky guy will also be able to tell about his application.
