SvN reader Michael P. sent in an interesting link this morning to the Skyline Review. This site shows the rental rate, building shape, parking rates, and space availability by floor with an innovative graphic display:
The light grey represents available space. Black is occupied. Pretty cool way to get a quick feel for how full a building is and which floors have space available.

on 24 Mar 08Great idea. One thing they can improve—the lines dividing the floors are brighter and more noticeable that the grey area showing available space. They ought to tone it down a little, and perhaps increase the contrast between the grey/black areas.

on 24 Mar 08Neat idea.
They should fix the page in a browser height window though. Any scrolling gives a really unpleasant strobe effect. They’re only slightly below the fold in any case, so a little tweaking would do.
Also, I’d gradient the background light blue-blue (maybe with some birds?) during the day and orange-black at night (maybe with a moon).
Occasionally (say, April 1st), I’d be tempted to put a godzilla beside one of the buildings or king kong on one, but maybe that’s a little too ‘fun’ for their audience.

on 24 Mar 08Neat tool. I like the background personally because at a glance you can see the floors in 5 floor increments.

on 24 Mar 08The anti-aliased white text is painful. And when you scroll horizontally you lose the context of each row. At least the PDF is clearer.
I give it a solid B.

on 24 Mar 08Funny, I twittered that last night.

on 25 Mar 08Very cool.
BTW, is $20-30 per sf normal in metro areas? I’m used to paying $3 per sf … that is crazy.
Geoff
on 25 Mar 08@Erik, over $20 per sf per year is definitely normal. “Cool” loft space is sometimes less than $15. Warehouse space is often in the under $5 range.

on 25 Mar 08$30 per SF for downtown space in Vancouver BC.
