The Senz aerodynamic umbrella turns itself to the best position in the wind and won a red dot award for its novel design. Even the shaft was rethought and redesigned (it’s oval, not cylindrical or square). I love reinventions of every day objects that are long taken for granted.
And not that an umbrella matters in a hurricane, but…

on 07 Oct 08Nice idea, and looks good on paper. But not so good when you have it in your hand. Looks goofy when it is folded in to a “stick” and it is not symmetric. And does not fold into a smaller parts.

on 07 Oct 08Actually, the coverage might be better. Since I tend to hold my normal umbrella in one hand, one side is usually more covered than the other. If you angled this umbrella so that the bigger side is over your body, it would give you much better coverage…
I think I saw this umbrella in Batman Returns….

They’re really comfortable, not cheap (but affordable), stylish and great quality. Unfortunately, we still have rain too often.

What’s the benefit of the oval shaft compared to a cylindrical or square shaped one?
Is it just because it looks nice, or is there a functional reason for it too?
