A giggling Charlie Rose plays a racing game on the iPad. “This is fun, even at my age.” Hulu clip not working? You can view the show at CharlieRose.com (this clip starts at 8:25 in).
You’re reading Signal v. Noise, a publication about the web by Basecamp since 1999. Happy !

on 06 Apr 10Display as steering-wheel doesn’t work for me. It’s neither realistic nor particularly intuitive or fun. And it makes you crane your head.

on 06 Apr 10It’s fun watching old people interact with technology (when you’re not having to assist, which hopefully with the iPad will become a more common occurrence).
I have to disagree with Chuck. Most of the time with these accelerometer-based racing games, the graphics adjust to remain level as you rotate the device. It’s actually pretty intuitive. More so than clicky controllers with buttons, in my opinion.

HAHA, what a grump!

on 06 Apr 10Sadly, I can’t watch it on my iPad. First thing i’ve come across where the lack of flash was noticed. Oh well :).

on 07 Apr 10Glad I’m not the only one to see it’s hyper ironic that this video can’t actually be viewed on an iPad, neither here or at charlierose.com

on 07 Apr 10Video did not work outside of US. . boring.

on 07 Apr 10It’s so logical to post a video about the iPad on a service that is only available in the US, since for the rest of the world, the iPad is not supposed to exist yet.
The USA probably fears a rush of techno-refugees in the next days if the coolness of the iPad was to be revealed to the other countries… It’s much better to let all these people believe the iPad is just another useless gizmo, it’s for their own good.

on 09 Apr 10I don’t have an iPhone or any other useless gadget. However, while the iPad definitely can be useless, it is going to be a huge asset for my customers. Personally, I’m stoked.
