on 08 Apr 10I thought you guys were against stringent planning! But on the table I see floor plans and construction drawings! Shame on you!
Ok, just kidding. The space really looks great! I very envious.
When you do expect to move in?

on 08 Apr 10Looks like a pretty big space for a company that promotes working from home :)

on 08 Apr 10I hope you guys post some pictures of your new office when fully furnished.
I find it very inspiring to see other peoples work environment. I love „This Ain’t no Disco“ for example.

on 08 Apr 10It would be interesting to see how you guys design a work place that is not tailored for interruptions :)

on 08 Apr 10Why the offices in the middle, and not against the windows?
JF
on 08 Apr 10Carson: 1. They aren’t “offices” in the traditional sense. More on this later. 2. When you put them against the window, you lose a good bit of light coming into the rest of the space. A big plus of this space is the natural light. 3. They’d have to be full height (you can’t connect a wall/ceiling to a window) which would also block light coming in at the top.

on 09 Apr 10Any chance of seeing the floor plan at some point? Would be great to see how you guys have laid everything out.

on 09 Apr 10I agree on having more natural light. Was a nice edition when the office at work expanded. We were normally against a solid wall. Now with that wall down, we have a nice corner of all windows :).

on 09 Apr 10The construction looks good so far. I’d love to see the floor plan.
I have an off topic question: whats the story behind the name 37 Signals?

on 09 Apr 10We wrapped construction about a year ago. To quote Rob Bass, I feel your “Joy & Pain.”
All sub-contractors should read “Getting Real” and “Rework” before being aloud to work on anything.
We scrapped the t-bar from our plans and went open loft style. As you noted previously this is causing lots of interruptions, as a result, I’m looking at putting some glass walls around my office.
One question arises. Where is the 40 seat U-of-37 in the video? What point in time on your video?
Brian
on 10 Apr 10Love the space and the light. Not so crazy about the fixed walls and blocking the light. Glass movable walls would have been such a better choice for you guys. http://www.haworth.com/en-us/Products/Architectural/Pages/Moveable-Walls.aspx

Spoken like a person who has no idea what the space plan is. Maybe they wanted to soundproof these rooms. Maybe they didn’t want glass walls all around. Maybe there’s something on the other side of these walls which requires electricity and mounting space. Maybe they wanted the walls to be tackable (cork, fiber, etc).

on 10 Apr 10Are you applying any of the patterns from A timeless way of building to this space?
Tim
on 11 Apr 10I think this will more of a workshop/training space than a traditional Office like you guys are thinking. Maybe a place where customers can gather and 37 can run workshops etc.

on 14 Apr 10I have followed you guys for a long time and a multi-thousand-square-foot office seems anathema to everything you stand for. What’s the rationale?
