on 15 Jul 10Great podcast. Thanks for the insight on designer/developer interaction.
Jason, you seem to have a lot of problems with some words. In this case, are you saying people have so many ideas for what minimalism means that you don’t want to use the word? Or are you trying to break down “big” words into their smaller parts? Perhaps you were attacked by vocabulary books as a child? :)

on 15 Jul 10Sean: I don’t like words that don’t mean anything. Minimalism is one of those words to me. I’m always trying to find clarity in words (it’s a constant struggle). Minimalism is muddled.

on 17 Jul 10Minimalism is a tough design concept right now because information complexity and abundance is what people are being sold. The Russian Constructivists sorts of nailed minimalism 100 years ago – that was a different socio-polictical and design landscape. Any minimalist design in 2010 needs to acknowledge the complexity and texture of our media and design infrastructure.
Think of it like this: playstation graphics – minimalist (few polys) playstation 3 graphics – complex and textured
or
rss feeds – minimalist saas apps in cloud – complex api interacions
sure, the surface may appear minimal to the casual user, but the underlying info and data are much more complex than even 5 years ago.
thanks for the podcast – good luck in the new office
