Happy birthday Basecamp! Our flagship product celebrated its third anniversary yesterday. Here’s the original launch announcement made right here on Signal vs. Noise. And my, look how our baby has grown:
- Over 1,000,000 people have Basecamp accounts worldwide.
- 94% of customers surveyed said they would recommend Basecamp to a friend, client, or colleague.
- Great reviews from our customers and mentions in major publications.
- Integration with other great products like Blinksale, Harvest, Phonified, Project Recon for Windows XP, Dashboard widgets, and more.
- Big productivity boosts on Basecamp’s most popular feature: To-do lists.
- We just increased storage limits across the board (2x on the Personal, Basic, and Plus plan, 3x on the Premium plan, and 4x on the Max plan).
We’re constantly adding tweaks and improvements and have plans in 2007 to keep the improvements coming. Over 90% of all changes we make to Basecamp are based on customer requests so thanks for your feedback. And thanks to all our customers for helping make Basecamp’s success possible.
To help celebrate, here’s a coupon code for $10 off your next month when you upgrade: XYN58UA6F2.

on 06 Feb 07congrats.
basecamp is no longer a tiny app. i mean, you have messages, comments, to-do lists, time tracking, files, milestones, documents/writeboards, and campfire integration. it’s not overkill by any means, but basecamp is definitely no longer the very small app it once was.

on 06 Feb 071,000,000 users, paid or not, is seriously impressive.
It would be cool to write a blog entry about the progression of Basecamp over the last 3 years.

on 06 Feb 07We’ve just started to use Basecamp to manage our projects and totally love it, keep up the awesome work!
I think it would also be a good idea if you accepted payments from Paypal, you’d probably get A LOT more users signing up.
Congrats!

on 06 Feb 07Congratulations to you and your customers!
I remember emailing Jason, 3.2 years ago and wondering if 37 Signals (back when they still did client work) could give my company some advice related to our web-based software development for real estate companies.
Jason was good enough to call me, listen to what I was dealing with (old-school Microsoft oriented programmers) and tell me he couldn’t help me as they were not going to be continuing with client work. He also indicated that our whole development environment was based on the wrong set of tools—he was so right! He told me to watch for some developments that they were working on that might be useful.
A few months later, I saw the first iteration of BaseCamp and then the release of the secret behind its development, Ruby on Rails. The boys at 37s deserve a great deal more than kudos for BaseCamp. BaseCamp is the genesis of the most exciting web-based applications still to come. We should all be hoping BaseCamp continues to be the leader in this category.

on 06 Feb 07Happy Birthday to Basecamp! It’s made my life so much easier!! Easier to manage clients, projects, etc. Some of my clients loved it so much, they started using it internally for their own projects unrelated to ours. Maybe we should have a birthday cake in the kitchen :-)

on 06 Feb 07My consulting company wouldn’t be as organized nor efficient as it is today without Basecamp, and I’ve had alot of fun programming with the Basecamp API.
