But I can’t help wondering what we might have said if we hadn’t been stopped. Maybe we were just around the corner from something thrilling. Isn’t that the nature of a live conversation? It halts, it stutters, it doubles back, it soars. We might have found a small nugget, something off topic or unexpected.

on 10 Dec 10Very true. Another thing that is true is that Steve Martin should stick to his strengths as a brilliant actor and amazingly skilled comedian. The role of author and art expert – especially one on the book-tour circuit – is better left to others.

on 10 Dec 10@Scott – Not sure if you’ve read his books/autobiography, but he is also very skilled at writing and talking about art (in its many forms).
I think the difference with the event at the Y was purely audience expectations. If the even was featuring anyone other than Steve Martin, they’d have found those same words to be interesting and full of insight (or maybe they wouldn’t have attended in the first place).
