Nejc Polovsak remade a REWORK illustration (original at right) in 3D. It was an hour from concept to finished design. He writes, “I think it’s a good habit to start making things as soon as you get the idea, take an hour and start working on it. Usually when you just write it down in your to-do list it never gets done and usually the excitement is never so intense as the first time. So just start and create/design/do stuff already.”

on 14 Jan 11Looks like a “Start Smoking” ad.
Dan Boland
on 14 Jan 11I thought it was a cigarette, too.
TJ
on 14 Jan 11That what I thought too.

on 14 Jan 11I was wondering why they were promoting smoking as well. The pole needs a little less rust.. or maybe that was the original intent of the art.
Neil N
on 14 Jan 11I think the rust itself is fine, it just needs to NOT stop abruptly making the top of the pole look like a cigarette filter.

on 14 Jan 11Where were you guys when the page was blank? Why get all hung up about the rust? It looks great and is a nice execution of a good idea.

on 14 Jan 11::slow clap::

on 14 Jan 11Sean, I wasn’t invited to be there when the page was blank. If I was, my first input would have been “Don’t make the pole look like a cigarette.”
Trent
on 14 Jan 11This thread is actually pretty funny. :-)
Anthony Barba
on 14 Jan 11Yep, cigarette.

on 14 Jan 11@Neil—So we’re to smoke unfiltered cigarettes? That’s even worse….

on 14 Jan 11Nejc is so right. It’s all about the ‘flow’ you get when the idea strikes. Nothing else matters. Just the idea. Then you work on it. It’s possible when you have and/or give autonomy over what you do. I’ve just read ‘Drive’ by Daniel H. Pink- it is so much in line with what you guys at 37signals do. It’s a real pleasure to learn from you.

on 15 Jan 11Looks actually like a bad example for the point he is trying to make. If he took more time to plan a little and make his mind up, he would have considered making the color of the shield green and not red, and to make the pole more “unrusty” so it a) doesn’t look like an “Anti-Anti-Smoking Ad” and b) is more “driving”.

on 17 Jan 11Wow, at first all I thought was great idea, now I am also seeing the cigarette….

on 17 Jan 11Let me go outside and have a smoke then…
