Jim Coudal talks about the history of Coudal, where they’ve been, where they’re going now, how they got there, and how to parlay one business into another business. Jim is a great teacher and we’re so lucky to have him and his crew in Chicago.
You’re reading Signal v. Noise, a publication about the web by Basecamp since 1999. Happy !

on 08 Jul 11Good video. Bridge is an awesome game, though, Jim, and it’s becoming cool again. You should play.

on 08 Jul 11Awesome Video. Stay until the end of the video where Coudal talks about his ideas that failed.
one of the ideas that failed: Swap Meat – People would send them stuff and they would swap it
My favorite part was when he talked about being invited by chance to an indie conference that opened up the doors to massive distribution for Field Notes and what lead to being featured in JCrew’s catalog.

on 08 Jul 11I really enjoyed this video! Jim is always a good source for inspiration and, as Jason says, a great teacher.
However, along with Bridge, you should not knock golf… some of my best and most creative work has come after a 6:30 am round of golf. A few hours of getting your mind of things can go a long way towards getting you revved up to work.

on 09 Jul 11This video made me feel much better about the all the silly, hair-brained ideas I’ve ever had or tried to implement. His enthusiasm is wonderful.

on 11 Jul 11Interesting video – I had a similar idea to Swap Meet and still think that there’s a market for a nice site to facilitate swapping/recycling/repurposing things people don’t need.

on 11 Jul 11Thanks for posting this!! It’s hard to believe that having such an agency is possible but it’s truly a dream come true if you can dream big enough.
