We’ve just launched the new 37signals product blog at productblog.37signals.com (subscribe to the RSS feed). Here you’ll find everything you want to know about our products:
- Tips and tricks
- Feature updates
- Extras, widgets, API integrations, etc.
- Case studies
- Press clips
- Coupons
- And more…
We created this new blog because we want customers to have one place to check for news and information regarding all 37signals products.
We’ll still post occasional product news here at Signal vs. Noise like we always have, but the new product blog is the place to get the in-depth scoop on Basecamp, Highrise, Backpack, Campfire, Ta-Da List, and Writeboard.
We’ll be tweaking some details and design elements over the next few weeks, but we wanted to get it out there now since 95% of the value exists already.
(Note: The launch of this universal 37signals product blog means the end of the line for Everything Basecamp and Everything Backpack. the individual blogs we had for those products.)
If there’s anything you’d like to see there, if you’ve got a tip that other customers might enjoy, or if you think you’d make for an interesting case study, let us know. We’re really looking to build up the site with good, customer-driven content so don’t be bashful.
Also, we’ll be adding a Getting Real section to the site shortly and we’re on the lookout for success stories. If you’ve found Getting Real helpful, tell us about it.

on 15 May 07Does anyone else find the EveryThing blog much easier to read?

on 15 May 07I agree on the alternative design being much easier to scan. I think it’s the black/blue vs. green/pink.

on 15 May 07Yuppie! more great stuffs! i’m loving it already, it really showcase the products and generate ideas for me. :P
Brian Bailey
on 15 May 07Excellent move! Not only does it simplify things, but it broadens the reach of the tools. As someone learns about the app they know and love, she will also be exposed to clever ways the other apps can make her life (professional or otherwise) easier.

on 15 May 07Although I generally don’t like s to be #000, this is a good idea. Maybe a #676767? One day my whole house is getting painted in #676767

on 15 May 07Humm…didnt print the word “headings”.....to repeat, I don’t generally like headings to be #000…..that is all.

on 15 May 07Great idea… much improved over the individual blogs before.

on 15 May 07Interesting to see you are using typepad to run the product blog rather than blogcabin.
As I have a number of 37s products it is great to see everything in one place.
Andrew
on 15 May 07Matt Carey implicitly asks why you went with TypePad rather than with your own Blog Cabin for the new blog. He’s not alone in being interested. I’d also be interested in whether you considered WordPress. That would have allowed you easily to provide a separate feed for each product, as well as a feed for the whole range of products.
ML
on 15 May 07Blog Cabin didn’t offer the flexibilty we wanted for the product blog (most importantly: categories) and we didn’t want to stall the launch while waiting to add that functionality. So we decided to Get Real and just go with Typepad. Fwiw, Typepad does allow us to create a feed for each product but we’re choosing to keep things simple and avoid that for now.
Andrew
on 15 May 07Matt (L), thanks for the rapid clarification.

on 15 May 07I have only one request: product specific RSS feeds. Why should I have to read posts for stuff I don’t use? Or perhaps I could just use Yahoo! Pipes :)

on 16 May 07It looks good. My only complaint would be the lack of comments. I understand the concern of allowing comments on an official product announcement, but I think you lose a bit of authenticity without them. I think removing comments changes the tone from conversational to a more advertorial feel.
long time listener - repeat caller
on 16 May 07I must fervently agree with the commentator above me. Now that it seems you are migrating your product blog to a new system which does not currently allow for comments / feedback, you appear as though you are not interested in hearing what people have to say about products, unless we send an email or say something in the less trafficked forums.
This is a shame because now you are more open for comments for things often completely unrelated to 37S in your primary blog and merely making sunshine-y press releases in your product blog.
My opinion = “Boo.”
JF
on 16 May 07you appear as though you are not interested in hearing what people have to say about products, unless we send an email or say something in the less trafficked forums.
Come on… You know we’re interested in what people have to say. That’s why we have so many places and ways for people to give us feedback. Here, the forums, email. We’re as open to feedback and as engaged in the feedback as any company I know.
But each additional place requires more time from us to review the comments, clear out spam, delete off topic posts, put out flame wars, etc. And then if we’re not on top of every comment and every question people think we’re ignoring them which leads to even more flame wars, etc.
Running a highly trafficked blog with comments requires a considerable time investment. It’s one of the things I don’t think a lot of people understand until they have their own highly trafficked blog with 60,000+ readers, 10+ new posts a week, and 20-100 comments per post. I sure didn’t understand it until it happened to us. Running a blog like this is a full time job that we manage to squeeze into our other full time job.
We just don’t have any more time to squeeze right now. Maybe one day we will have the time. Right now we don’t. So right now comments are off. That’s the only way we could have launched the product blog. We believe there’s plenty of value in the product blog without comments for now.

on 16 May 07“Boo.”
Go do something that adds value instead of “Boo”ing people for trying something new. You are just a sad person trying to rain on other people’s parade. I’ve seen you post a lot and all your posts are negative.
Go add some value somewhere. Please post the URL for your company’s blog. I’d love to check it out.

on 17 May 07B, you are a moron.

on 18 May 07When are you guys going to integrate all of your apps into one? Getting my employees to use 6 different logins is not practical.
