I love the part in Rework talking about sketching with a Sharpie in order to reduce detail. Something I will be implementing immediately.

Going to the coffee shop is procrastination. Finding the source of the Nile by foot is exploration.
I used to sketch with a Sharpie in figure drawing class at AIPX. My instructors hated it but I agree with Jason + David, it helped lay down basic strokes that kept me from getting sucked into the details too early.
From the previous comments I can tell that it’s not universally applicable, but it resonates strongly with me! Thanks for sharing.
