NFL coaches use laminated cheat sheets to sort through 100+ plays organized for every situation a team might face. It’s interesting to see how they cram all this info onto one sheet of paper.
Red Microphones have pretty lines.
Penguin covers desktop collects a bunch of retro book covers in one image. Related: Penguin’s Great Ideas = great design.

on 03 Nov 06No way – Blue Microphones are much prettier.
I have a Dragonfly and it’s been borrowed for two different music video shoots.

on 03 Nov 06Was in the league for quite a few years as a “computer guy”. People always asked about the algorithms we used to analyze our opponents and break down their tendencies. We had them, but the most important thing a computer does for most coaches is cram as much info on a sheet of paper as possible. You should see the ‘menu/cheat sheet’ that the players wear in their custom made sweatbands.
“I know i have a good play on here somewhere…darn this small font…call timeout!”

on 03 Nov 06I wonder if they have some sort of IT staff or they make it themselves.
Dan Boland
on 03 Nov 06That card must have worked wonders, because the 1998 Vikings were the highest-scoring team in the history of the NFL.

on 03 Nov 06I second the comment about the Blue microphones, after all, all of the Red, Violet or any other color microphones are blatant knock-offs off of Blue.
David Comdico
on 03 Nov 06Blue owns Red, and the lollipop design is actually a “blatant rip-off” of the old Neumann CMV563a… :-)
George Morris
on 03 Nov 06Nice find. Considering how many plays were in my high school football playbook I’ve always been interested in how they could condense a pro playbook into one or two sheets.

on 06 Nov 06The Bears must have lost their cheat sheet this week! :P

on 06 Nov 06I’m liking the design on the http://www.updatelog.com/ site at the moment – looks a little different to how Basecamp usually appears – someone oopsied… ;)

on 06 Nov 06Nice dekstop…too bad all there is to see is a small thumbnail. Where can I download like…the dekstop??

on 06 Nov 06a) Pete Forde- Red microphones are made by the people who make Blue microphones.
b) what David Comidico said, with the addition that that ‘bottle’ design in the pictured mic was made in many subtle variations by a few different german companies in the 30s and 40s including Telefunken, etc. IIRC.

on 06 Nov 06@myself: Oh wait I see…I’ve got to sign up to Yahoo! to sign up to Flickr to be able to see a picture full size. Nice to not let me know how to perform an obvious action, and then when I find out to let me fill out 2 pages of nonsense to actually perform the action Flickr…
